Situation Awareness: How to Spot Problems During Litigation

situation-awarenessWith months of planning, supervision, guidance, extensive project management, and even the wisdom of years as an experienced professional, problems can occur within a trial environment. I have personally experienced fire damage in a war room, hurricanes, countless travel delays and “Acts of God” that even one with a crystal ball couldn’t have predicted. The way in which we handle these problems as they occur will ultimately define our level of effectiveness, as well as how well we rise to the occasion and ply our trade. In aviation, a well known concept called “situation awareness” assists pilots in understanding their exact position, risks and exposure in time & place. The Benefits and Liabilities of Law Firm Unified Messaging

unified-messaging We live extremely diverse electronic lives. With email, VoIP/voicemail, instant messages, faxes, text messages and social media platforms (i.e. “The Twitterverse”), the manner(s) in which we communicate are spread across multiple portals. In an effort to bring order to the chaos, many law firms have understood the challenges in maintaining a life that is totally “in sync” with all of the digital aspects of our existence. The concept of unified messaging is that one platform can exist as a hub for voicemail (via attachment), email (both personal and business, if desired), faxes, documents, updates, archived video phone calls or conferences, SharePoint/CMS information, streamed media and instant message conversations. Unified messaging was not born in 2009, nor will it be a fad that should be completely ignored. Many firms and corporations have existed within a unified platform for years (i.e. Microsoft), and while this may seem to be an avenue worth immediately pursuing, several factors must first be discussed and evaluated.
