The concept of unified messaging is that one platform can exist as a hub for voicemail (via attachment), email (both personal and business, if desired), faxes, documents, updates, archived video phone calls or conferences, SharePoint/CMS information, streamed media and instant message conversations. Unified messaging was not born in 2009, nor will it be a fad that should be completely ignored. Many firms and corporations have existed within a unified platform for years (i.e. Microsoft), and while this may seem to be an avenue worth immediately pursuing, several factors must first be discussed and evaluated.
